چکیده

Low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH), a mixture of polysaccharide molecules, is derived from unfractionated heparin (UFH) by physical and/or chemical processes. Using subcutaneous injections of LMWH to treat patients with deep vein thrombosis has several major advantages over the use of conventional intravenous or subcutaneous UFH therapy. For instance, there is no requirement for laboratory monitoring of activated partial thromboplastin time with LMWH. However, in the report we observed a 65-year-old female with end-stage renal disease and found that she, after receiving anticoagulant treatment with Nadroparin (LMWH), developed bleeding complications. It indicates that the potential bleeding adverse effect of LMWHs should be taken into account when applied to patients with severe renal disease. ( J Intern Med Taiwan 2007; 18: 140-145 )

A Rare Presentation of Arterial Thrombosis after Venous Thrombosis in a Patient with Gastric Cancer

Background: Venous thromboembolism, which comprises deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among patients with cancer. The aim of the present study was to report a rare presentation of arterial thrombosis after venous thrombosis in a patient with gastric cancer. Report of the Case: A 45 year-old female patient with locally advanced gas...

Low-molecular-weight heparin in outpatient treatment of DVT.

Patients with a diagnosis of acute deep venous thrombosis have traditionally been hospitalized and treated with unfractionated heparin followed by oral anticoagulation therapy. Several clinical trials have shown that low-molecular-weight heparin is at least as safe and effective as unfractionated heparin in the treatment of uncomplicated deep venous thrombosis. The use of low-molecular-weight h...

Agents to control bleeding show promise.

Every year, thousands of patients develop deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and are at risk of pulmonary embolism after undergoing surgeries, particularly orthopedic procedures in the hips and legs. Although low-molecular-weight heparin is considered the standard therapy for DVT and other forms of venous thromboembolism, it is far from an ideal anticoagulant. Its drawbacks include the need for daily i...

Fixed-dose versus adjusted-dose low molecular weight heparin for the initial treatment of patients with deep venous thrombosis.

Patients with acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) were treated with a body-weight independent dosage of 2 x 8000 aXa IU low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) Certoparin. After the subcutaneous administration of 8000 IU Certoparin, pharmacodynamic parameters did not differ between patients and healthy volunteers, and the AUC of the anticoagulant effects were not related to body weight. Two clinical t...

Complications related to deep venous thrombosis prophylaxis in trauma: a systematic review of the literature

Deep venous thrombosis prophylaxis is essential to the appropriate management of multisystem trauma patients. Without thromboprophylaxis, the rate of venous thrombosis and subsequent pulmonary embolism is substantial. Three prophylactic modalities are common: pharmacologic anticoagulation, mechanical compression devices, and inferior vena cava filtration. A systematic review was completed using...
